How to prepare for DOT Blitz Week as a Shipper.

Here are some insights for shippers during DOT Blitz Week:

1. Tender loads earlier than usual: This helps secure reliable carriers before availability tightens. 

2. Build flexibility into schedules:

• Allow extra transit time and appointment buffers, beyond the normal 30-minute industry standard.

• Use realistic delivery windows that account for potential inspection delays, driver rest breaks, and loading/unloading.

• Be flexible on pickup/delivery dates whenever possible. 

3. Communicate clearly and early with carriers:

• Provide accurate shipment information upfront: weight, dimensions, commodity, loading instructions, and any special securement needs (especially important for flatbeds.)

• Discuss flexibility and accessorials (such as detention/layover pay) transparently so carriers aren’t penalized for uncontrollable delays.
