Heading into DOT Blitz Week: What to Expect

For 72 hours, enforcement officers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico will step up commercial vehicle inspections as part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) largest annual safety initiative. Often called “DOT Blitz Week,” the entire industry is bracing itself for lower capacity as drivers have significantly higher chances of being pulled in at weigh stations, fix sites, rest areas, and roadside pop-ups...

Inspectors will primarily conduct North American Standard Level I Inspections- a thorough 37-step review of both driver qualifications and vehicle condition. In past years, this event has resulted in tens of thousands of inspections, with thousands of vehicles and drivers placed out of service.

2026 Focus Areas:

  • Driver Focus: Electronic Logging Device (ELD) tampering, falsification, or manipulation- including hours-of-service accuracy.

  • Vehicle Focus: Cargo securement (tie-downs, blocking, bracing, load distribution, and preventing shifting, falling, or leaking loads)

  • Other common areas like brakes, tires, lights, steering, and driver credentials will also receive close attention.

What to Expect on the Road:

  • Increased delays at scales and inspection sites.

  • Higher likelihood of thorough inspections and potential out-of-service orders for violations.

  • Possible impacts on scheduling, capacity, and on-time performance during those three days.

  • Coordinated enforcement across North America, with the heaviest activity in the U.S.

DOT Blitz Week is a great reminder that safety and compliance are year-round responsibilities, not just during high-visibility events. Taking proactive steps now, not later, will help keep drivers safe, your loads moving, and your operation running smoothly.
